Our 2 days Mafia island tour with flights from Zanzibar Island to Mafia Archipelago in the Azure Indian Ocean is every adventure lover’s tour of a lifetime. This short trip involves exploring the incredible Mafia Island Marine Park protecting the vast swaths of Mafia’s southern Coastline as well as surrounding waters.
A visit to Kilindoni (the main Town / City of Mafia Island for a City tour, dhow cruise, and walks along the smooth sand beaches in addition to swimming and snorkeling with Whale sharks are the highlights of this
Mafia Island is part of Tanzania’s Mafia Archipelago, in the Indian Ocean. Large swaths of the island’s southern coastline and surrounding waters are protected by the Mafia Island Marine Park. Within the park are many coral reefs, home to wildlife such as whale sharks and sea turtles.
Mafia Island is very small. If you are staying in Kilindoni, everything is within walking distance. In the center are the main road and a market. From here, the airport is 5 minutes (walk), the port 5 minutes and a swimmable beach 15 minutes, with all restaurants and bars (there aren’t many!) sat in between.
In the south, beaches include secluded Ras Kisimani, just across from Bwejuu Island. Popular Utende Beach edges onto Chole Bay.
Depart by the morning flight direct from Abeid Amani Karume International Airport to Mafia Island which lasts about 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on the booked flight.
On arrival at the spectacular Island, you will be met and greeted by our Tour representative then embark on the whale shark excursion.
Your guide will lead you to the Whale Shark base for briefing and what to expect before hopping on a local boat to find them.
The time dictates the number of sites you will visit during this excursion but don’t miss out on the Utende Beach, Kilindoni market with a variety of tantalizing things ranging from fruits to African wear.
Before sunset return to your booked place of stay for a BBQ dinner, bonfire, and overnight rest.
After breakfast, we will check the tides before driving you to the Mafia Marine Park for snorkeling, which exposes you to several marine creatures including moray eels, turtles, seahorses, sting rays, and octopuses among others.
If time allows, you will check out the turtle nest see the beautiful hatchlings, and relax with a local BBQ lunch.
Also get a chance to tour the Utende Village where you might see the flying foxes and then drive back to Mafia Airport.
Letter you Catch your flight back to Zanzibar Airport which is followed by drop-off at your Hotel or embarking on your International flight.
